About the project
Esencia is a contemporary floor lamp designed to expand the product portfolio of Veta, a Mexican furniture brand. The project focuses on translating Veta's established visual identity into a new category of lighting.
By drawing direct inspiration from the brand's distinctive icon, the lamp serves as a functional piece of art that embodies the "essence" of the company's aesthetic and values.
Overview
Why
The project began with a strategic analysis of Veta's existing catalog, which revealed a significant gap in their lighting offerings, specifically in the floor lamp category.
There was a clear opportunity to create a flagship piece that could provide ambient lighting while reinforcing brand recognition. The goal was to move beyond a purely utilitarian object and create a luminary that encourages a more thoughtful and engaging interaction between the user and their interior environment.
Who and How
Working as a bridge between industrial logic and traditional craftsmanship, the design process focused on a "high-low" material approach. We integrated industrial wood processing with artisanal weaving techniques, ensuring the lamp remained scalable for production while retaining the warmth of handmade Mexican design.
This transition from a classroom concept to a practical business scenario required constant alignment with Veta's production capabilities and brand standards to ensure the final product was market-ready.
What and When
The final output is a structural floor lamp characterized by its use of premium wood and intricate handcrafted textures.
The design utilizes the brand's iconic geometry as a primary silhouette, creating a cohesive look that feels like a natural evolution of the Veta family.
After a rigorous development phase focusing on stability, light diffusion, and material durability, the proposal received official approval from the brand and moved into the manufacturing stage.
Results
Esencia successfully transitioned from a conceptual prototype to a commercial product in production.
The result is a piece that seamlessly blends into Veta's high-end catalog, offering a sophisticated lighting solution that balances industrial precision with the "human touch" of weaving. For the design team, this project marked a professional milestone, proving the ability to deliver a market-viable product that meets the aesthetic and financial requirements of a real-world brand.
Impact
The impact of Esencia is twofold: it elevates Veta's brand authority by successfully entering a new market segment and sets a precedent for how traditional Mexican techniques can be modernized through industrial design.
By prioritizing user-centric lighting and brand consistency, the project demonstrates how thoughtful design can drive business growth while celebrating the rich heritage of artisanal craftsmanship in a contemporary commercial context.
